"COMPARE THE SAVED MAN
AND THE SINNER MAN"
Psalms 1:1-6
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
INTRO:
**Psalms chapter one is a comparison between a Saved Man and a Sinner Man.
**This Psalm can be divided in to two sets of verses:
1. The Happiness and The Holiness of a Saved Man (V:1-3)
2. The Sinfulness and The Suffering of the Sinner Man
(V:4-6)
**We need this kind of preaching in this day that clearly defines the Characteristics and the Condition of both the Saved Man and the Sinner Man!
**Satan has blurred the lines way too much and intertwined them together so much that most today do not know the difference. We’re going to separate the two and define the lines clearly so we can Identify A Blessed Man.
I. NOTICE THE SAVED MAN’S DECISION
Psalms 1:1 1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
**There’s three actions of the blessed man that is worth noting in our first verse.
A. Note His Steps
Psalms 1:1a 1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly
**The blessed man watches his steps and . . .
1. He doesn’t get near the ungodly to get Counsel
2. He doesn’t get near the ungodly to get Close
3. He doesn’t get near the ungodly to gain Companionship
**We are to go and be a witness and a soul winner so that the ungodly sinner gets converted. However, the blessed man doesn’t get counsel from the ungodly, get close to the ungodly, nor gain companionship with the ungodly. That will just make you ungodly! Many Christians need to learn to watch their steps!
B. Note His Stand
Psalms 1:1b nor standeth in the way of sinners
**We job is to Stand in the Will of the Savior – not Stand in the Way of the Sinner
**Too often we can make the lost man more determined to live in sin and go to hell when we try own our own to stop him in his journey toward hell. We must stand for God and give directions not set up road blocks.
C. Note His Seat
Psalms 1:1c nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
1. He’s not one that sits and Boasts
2. He’s not one that sits and Bullies
**A blessed man, according to the scripture, will not be scornful which means to be boastful and also to be a bully.
**Some Christian people will boast and be bullies, and they ought not to!
II. NOTICE THE SAVED MAN’S DELIGHT
Psalms 1:2 2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
A. His Delight is in the Law that He Has
1. He follows the Law with His Studying
2. He follows the Law with His Steps
B. His Delight is in the Lord that He Has
1. He delights in the Law to Please the Lord!
2. He delights in the Law to Praise the Lord!
C. His Delight is in the Love that He Has
**He loves his bible so much that . . .
1. He meditates on the scriptures in the Day
2. He meditates on the scriptures in the Dark
**When it’s day and the sun is shining in our lives it’s easy to meditate on God’s Word when it’s day.
**However, a righteous blessed man will meditate on God’s Word when things get dark in his life!
III. NOTICE THE SAVED MAN’S DURATION
Psalms 1:3 3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
A. Look at How Fruitful He Is
Psalms 1:3a . . . like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season
1. Notice He is Planted
**Too many unstable Christians are not fruitful just because they are not planted in Church nor in Christ!
2. Notice He is Producing
**A blessed man’s fruit is Sensational, but it is also Seasonal. Be weary of those who claim to be fruitful at all times! Apple trees don’t produce apples year around!
B. Look at How Faithful He Is
Psalms 1:3b his leaf also shall not wither
**Wither means to fade, to fall, and also foolishness!
**Notice this blessed man is planted by rivers of water. He gets water faithfully because he is planted in the right spot!
1. Therefore, He’s not Fading Away
2. Therefore, He’s not Falling Away
3. Therefore, He’s not Foolish Acting
**Many preachers get frustrated and they tell the members to quit acting like a fool or quit fading or falling away. The fact is they’ll continue to fade, fall, and be foolish if they do not get well planted in Church and in Christ by the water!
C. Look at How Fortunate He Is
Psalms 1:3c and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
**He Blossoms, He Blooms, He Benefits!
**God wants you and I to be prosperous!
IV. NOTICE THE SINNER MAN’S DRIVE
Psalms 1:4 4The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
**Chaff is the husk or the waste of winnowed corn.
A. The Ungodly are like Chaff and Get Driven and Blown
1. They get Thrown Around by an Unstable Doctrine
2. They get Tossed Around by an Unreasonable Devil
3. They get Taken Away by an Ungodly Darkness
B. The Ungodly are like Chaff and Get Driven and Burnt
**The fate of the chaff was fire!
1. It’s Considered as Wicked, so it’s burnt!
2. It’s Considered a Waste, so it’s burnt!
**Your family and your friends need to understand that when they turn their life over to the devil and let their life get blown away that they will burn one day! That’s what happens to the ungodly!
V. NOTICE THE SINNER MAN’S DELIMA
5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
A. We see there will be No Standing
**I thought everyone will stand before the Lord on judgment day. Well, we’ll all COME before the Lord, but we won’t all be STANDING before the Lord.
**Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess!
**I think this means that the ungodly will never be able to stand up. In other words . . .
1. They will never be Raised to go home with the Lord!
2. They will never be Redeemed to go home with the Lord!
B. We see there will be No Sinners
1. No Sinners among this Certain Congregation
**Congregation – a private domestic meeting; a family!
**In other words, the separation between the Saved and the Sinners has happened, and there is a private domestic family meeting, and if you ain’t in the family of God, you won’t be in that congregation!
2. No Sinners among these Certain Characters
**The sinner man will not get to go with the righteous man who is a redeemed man!
IV. NOTICE THE SINNER MAN’S DIRECTION
Psalms 1:6 6For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
**It’s interesting to me that the way of the righteous in this scripture is still a mystery. The Lord knows the way of the righteous; in other words, He knows what’s in store for the righteous, but He’s not telling us! There’ so much about heaven we just don’t know. Do you know why? IT’S A SURPRISE!
**However, our text does tell us the fate of the sinner man – the ungodly. The ungodly perish!
A. It means to be Destroyed!
B. It means to be Dying!
**The destination for the ungodly sinner man is to be dying and to be destroyed forever and ever in a burning Hell fire and Hell flame!
